NYRB sign Holgersson

News: New York Red Bulls have signed Swedish defender Markus Holgersson from Helsingborgs IF. The 6 ft .3 in. center back appeared 27 times last season as Helsingbourgs won the Swedish double.

Analysis: The Red Bulls needed to sign a central defender with the future of both Tim Ream and Rafa Marquez up in the air. It appears right now as though Ream will stay for 2012 where he should start alongside Holgersson in central defense with Marquez either in midfield or playing for another club. Either way Holgersson should be a starter for one of the top defensive clubs in MLS, making him a solid fantasy defender for 2012.
